Irene Anna Albertina (Schroeder) Hoffman

Irene Anna Albertina (Schroeder) Hoffman age 89 of York, Neb. died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at York.

Irene was born Feb. 24, 1922 in Kenesaw, Neb., to Albert and Wilhemina (Berndt) Schroeder.

Her family moved to Scottsbluff, Neb. where she met Gilbert Hoffman at the church they both attended. They were married on Christmas Day, 1939 and returned to York County, farming for many years as they raised 10 children. Irene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and time spent in her kitchen, happily serving her large family. She worked 13 years at York general Hospital after her children were in school. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York and served the Ruth Mission Circle and the Prayer Team.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, youngest daughter Sharon Hoffman, great grandson Peyton Hoffman, great grand daughters Emillie Rain and Kassidie Rose Kupke, and her sister Alice Weinhold.

She is survived by her children and their spouses. Seven sons; Harry and Donna Hoffman of Lavista, Neb., Clarence and Carolyn Hoffman of York, Neb., Roger and Lou Hoffman of Bradshaw, Neb., John and Barbara Hoffman of Polk, Neb., Robert and Vernalene Hoffman of Bradshaw, Neb., Matthew and Sandy Hoffman of Grand Island, Neb., David and Lindy Hoffman of Lincoln, Neb.; Two daughters: Carol and Eugene Kupke of Lusk, Wyo., and Diana and Robert Lewis of York, Neb.; 28 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and one expected; four great-great grandchildren and one expected; three sisters-in-law: Bernice Wiemer of York, Ardena Hoffman of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Anita Hoffman of Omaha, Neb.; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Hampton, Neb.

Visitation begins after 5:00 p.m. Monday with her family greeting friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday evening at the mortuary.
