Obituary

Newton B. Allen was born Nov. 15, 1840, in Ohio, and died March 9, 1916, after a lingering illness of seven weeks at Manville, Wyo.

When he was a boy his parents moved with their family to Louisa county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. At the beginning of the civil war he enlisted in Co. C., 16th Reg't Iowa Vol. Inf., where he remained in active service until the close of the war.

On Dec. 12, 1867, he was united in marriage with Miss Citney Mickey and they continued to reside on a farm in eastern Iowa, until 1873, when they removed to Taylor county and later to Ringgold county. In 1886 they came to Manville, Wyo., where the family has since resided. Mrs. Allen died in 1899. Two children, George Gaylord and Mrs. Winifred Case, and three grandchildren, Virgil, Edgar and Lloyd Allen, are left to mourn, besides many other relatives and friends.

He was an affectionate father and a kind and hospitable neighbor. Being one of the earliest settlers in this community he was widely known by all, and was always friendly and cheerful; during his last illness, tho suffering almost constantly, he was patient thru it all. Many will miss the kindly greeting of "Uncle Newt."

The funeral service was held in the M. E. Church at Manville, of which the deceased was a member, and was conducted by the Rev. O. C. King, the pastor. The church was appropriately decorated with flowers, flags, and two guns crossed in front of the altar and back of the casket. A large concourse of friends followed the body to the cemetery.
