Carl L. (Curley) Johnson Jr.

Curley Johnson passed away on June 17, 2011, surrounded by his family. Curley was born in Greenville, Miss. to Carl L Johnson Sr. and Augusta (Fitzgerald) Johnson on June 2, 1931.

During his childhood his family moved quite often, and he spent a lot of time with his grandparents.

In 1950 he moved to Lusk, Wyo. and enlisted in the US Navy. He then met Betty Lou Myrup. They fell in love and were married Jan. 14, 1953. After being discharged from the Navy, the couple moved back to Lusk and had two children, Curtis in 1954, and Melinda in 1956. The family moved to Glasgow, Mont. and had a third child, Shawn in 1968.

Curley went to work for Newton Motors in 1968, and became known as one of the best salesman in the state. While living in Glasgow he joined the Civil Air Patrol, eventually fulfilling his dream of flying a jet. This experience led to a lifelong passion for flying.

In 1972 the family moved to Torrington, Wyo. where Curley went to work for Lamb Construction, where he had a career as a superintendent for 21 years.

In 1994 Curley and Betty moved to Casper, WY to be closer to their children. During this time he worked for Emulsified Asphalt, until retiring for the first time in the late 90's.

In 2003 Curley and Betty moved back to Lusk, Wyo., where Curley took a job operating a blade for Niobrara County. He retired from the county in 2011 when he was 79.

Anyone who had ever spent any time with Curley knows he was always the center of attention, a prankster, and a joy to be around. He was truly one of a kind. He had a gift and passion for operating equipment, and managing projects. He was loved immensely by his family and coworkers.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Helen, and his son Curtis.

He is survived by his wife Betty Johnson, children, Melinda Johnson, and Shawn (Tannie) Johnson of Casper; nine grandchildren, Michelle, Mike, Mandy, Miles, Angela, Travis, Blake, Chase, and Devynn; and six great grandchildren, Mitchel, Nathan, Taylor, Trevor, Kloe and Reece.
