Clifford "Chalky" Alkire

Funeral services for Clifford "Chalky" Alkire, 66, were held Saturday, June 6, 1992, at the Church of Christ in Torrington, Wyo., with Pastor Phil King officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, Memorial gifts to the family would be appreciated. He died unexpectedly at his home June 3, 1992.

He was born June 16, 1925 at Scottsbluff, Neb. the son of Elmer and Bertha (Sharp) Alkire. He grew up and received his education in Torrington and was engaged in the tucking business all his life. He was employed by Hardesty Trucking and Carl Sawyer Trucking for several years before founding Alkire Trucking which he operated with his sons until his retirement in 1987.

He and Ann Lawler were married in Harrisburg, Neb. on July 7, 1946. He was a shipyard welder during the Korean War.

Alkire remained active in roping and horse showing events and had recently been assisting Gene Lay on his ranch north of Torrington.

He was affiliated with the Church of Christ; was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association; Goshen Riding and Roping Club; and president of the Torrington Irrigation District.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; a daughter and her husband, , Susan and Jim Bowlin; sons and wives, Gary and Peggy and Gene and Julie of Torrington; nine grandchildren; his mother, Bertha Coons and a brother, Earl Coons, both of Scottsbluff and a sister, Mrs. Ted (Gladys) White of Seattle, Wash.
