John M. Daugherty Dies Monday Night

John M. Daugherty died at the home of Mrs. Ida Peterson, where he had been cared for during the past several years, Monday evening, January 12, at about 9:30.

Mr. Daugherty was an elderly man, but his exact age had not been learned as The Herald goes to press. He had been blind for many years and little is known here of his life before he was brought to the Peterson home from the Keeline vicinity some five or six years ago.

Among the surviving relatives are two daughters, one of Sargeant, Neb., and the other of Mitchell, Neb., and a sister in California.

The two daughters are expected here for the funeral service, which will be held at the Peet Chapel on Thursday afternoon, with William A. Sherk officiating. Burial will be made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Daugherty Services Held Here Thursday

Funeral services for John M. Daugherty were conducted from the Peet Funeral chapel on Thursday afternoon, January 15 with William A. Sherk officiating.

The songs, "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Mrs. Lafe Culver, Jr., and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, accompanied by Miss Alice Fowler.

The casket bearers were John Rice, J. P. Costlow, Matt Bast and Jesse Rice. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Daugherty had been a resident of this vicinity for the past twenty years and for nearly eleven years had suffered the affliction of having lost his eyesight.

For the past several years he has been cared for at the home of Mrs. Ida Peterson, where he died Monday evening, Jan. 12 from the infirmities of his advanced years.

John Marion Daugherty, son of John and Mary Daugherty, was born in Quincy, Ill., on Oct. 31, 1867. He was 80 at the time of his death.

When a young man he came to Miller, Neb., and on April 14, 1892 he was married to Carrie A. Critton. To them seven children were born, five of whom survive their father. They are Mrs. Nina Nelson of Monette, Mo.; Mrs. Emma Griffin of Mitchell, Neb.; Mrs. Gertrude Hart of Sargent, Neb.; Mrs. Eva Real of Riverton, Wyo.; and Howard Daugherty of Riverton.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Wright of Chico, Calif., and Mrs. Sarah Mowery of Miller, Neb., fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and two children, Otis E. Daugherty and Mrs. Alice McCullough.

Before coming to Wyoming, Mr. Daugherty was engaged in farming in Custer County, Neb., the majority of the time being spent around Ainsley.

Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Hart of Sargeant, Neb., and Mrs. J.E. Griffin were here for the services.
