FORMER SENATOR SULLIVAN DIES IN CALIFORNIA MONDAY
Pioneer Statesman and Business Man Succumbs at Hospital in California as Result of Fractured Leg Received Some Weeks ago.
Former United States Senator Patrick Sullivan of Casper, died in a hospital at Santa Barbara, California, at noon Monday, following an illness of a couple of months.
Mr. Sullivan slipped on the ice in his yard a short while ago, fracturing one of his legs, and his physical condition was such that he failed to survive the shock. A strange coincidence was recalled by friends here when it was recited that the late M. R. (Ral) Collins of Douglas and Mr. Sullivan, who had been life-long friends, fell on the ice, in the same manner, only a day apart, each fracturing a leg, and both failed to survive the injury.
Funeral services will be held in Casper from St. Anthony's Catholic Church at 10:00 o'clock a.m., on Thursday, the Rev. Father J. H. Mullin officiating.
Mr. Sullivan was one of the most colorful figures in Wyoming history. He came to Wyoming in the early days, a poor immigrant boy from Ireland, and by strength of character and tenacity of purpose, not only built a fortune, but became one of the most influential figures in public life of the State. For 21 years he served in the Wyoming Senate; he was also mayor of Casper for two terms, and for more than a quarter of a century had served as national Republican committeeman. He was an influential figure in national republican conventions for many years, and was perhaps better known nationally than any other citizen of the State. Gov. Frank C. Emerson appointed him to the United States Senate to fill out the unexpired term of the late Senator Warren, and he served the brief term with honor to himself and credit to the State of Wyoming.
