Amsi G. Lowrey
A Pioneer Passes Away
Died, at his house at Lusk, Wyoming, Wednesday, February 28, 1906, at 8 a.m., Amsi. G. Lowrey, of paralysis. Mr. Lowrey was born in the state of New Jersey in the year 1836, coming west in the year of 1864, remaining in the west the greater part of his life since that time. He came to Wyoming with his wife in 1861, settling near Rawhide, in Laramie county, engaging in the stock business, and was well known by all of the early settlers in that section. His home was a very hospitable one, the stranger as well as the friend finding a welcome from both himself and wife. He remained in the stock business until about seven years ago, when he sold his ranch and moved to Lusk.
His health has been poor for a number of years, being confined to his bed for weeks at a time, but it was not until a year ago last December that he failed entirely to get around. He has since that time been totally unable to care for himself, suffering constantly from rheumatism and about 10 months ago he received a stroke of paralysis which rendered him as helpless as an infant. He rallied somewhat from this stroke, but suffered another a few hours before he died, this being the immediate cause of his death.
During all these months Mrs. Lowrey has cared for her husband practically alone, waiting on him night and day. Here again, is an example of a loving and dutiful wife and of true womanhood. She has done all that could be done and surely there is no greater comfort at such a time as this, than to have no regrets for duty undone. Everyone in the community sympathizes with Mrs. Lowrey in her hour of trial.
The body will be shipped to Pontiac, Michigan, for burial among dead relatives and boyhood friends, there to remain until the resurrection morn, the heart-broken wife accompanying the remains. She will make her future home there, where resides a brother and two sisters.
