Grandmother of Local Residents Dies June 18
Mrs. Sarah a. Smith, 81, pioneer resident of Converse County, died June 18 following a heart attack, in the Pacific Community's Hospital in Newport, Ore. She was the grandmother of James B. Smith of Keeline and Mrs. John Christian of Node.
Sarah Annie Smith was born March 25, 1876 in durham County, England, the daughter of James and Emma Blythe. At the age of nine she came with her parents to the United States.
She was married to Dr. Jay Smith October 27, 1896. They were the parents of three children: Louella, who died in infancy; Lloyd Blythe and Darrell Jay. the family settled in Glenrock in 1903 where Dr. Smith practiced medicine for many years.
Survivors include her husband, two sons, Lloyd of Depoe Bay, Ore. and Darrell of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren James Smith, Keeline, Mrs. John Christian, Node, Burton and Barbara Smith of San Diego and numerous other relatives.
