Elizabeth Emery, Former County Supt., Dies Sat.

Mrs. Elizabeth Emery, 85, retired school teacher and former Sioux County superintendent of schools, died Saturday afternoon at Torrington.

She and her husband, Alonzo B. Emery, homesteaded north of Mitchell in 1908. She taught school 29 years in Nebraska and Wyoming and was Sioux County superintendent at Harrison 14 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this Thursday from the United Presbyterian Church in Torrington.

The Rev. Roy F. Newer will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Morrill under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington.

The family requests memorials to the United Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.

Born August 15, 1874, in the lake region of Minnesota, Mrs. Emery spent her childhood in Minnesota and Nebraska. She attended elementary school and college in Nebraska and taught in the state several years before her marriage June 27, 1900, at Ponca, Nebr. to Alonzo B. Emery.

After her husband's death in 1954, she moved to Torrington where she was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the Philathia Class of the church, Ruth Bible Class and WCTU. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of Morrill.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William Pickens of Torrington and Mrs. Gordon Bartell of New Underwood, S. Dak.; four sons, John of Mitchell, Dr. Raymond C. Emery of Phoenix, Ariz., Roy of Cupertino, Calif., and Woodrow of San Diego, Calif.; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walter Krug of Torrington is a granddaughter.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters, three brothers, and a son, Dr. A. D. Emery who died in 1957.
