MRS. MELISSA BAIRD, 76, DIES AT HOSPITAL
Resident of Niobrara County Dies at Lusk Hospital, After Long Illness of Heart Trouble
Mrs. Melissa Baird, 76 years old, passed away at the Lusk Hospital shortly after midnight last Friday, after suffering from heart trouble for many years.
She had been brought to the hospital with the hope that her condition might be improved, but after two weeks' treatment she failed to respond.
Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church Saturday, with the Rev. Edwin F. Irwin officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery, arrangements being in charge of the Peet Mortuary.
The Rebekah Lodge attended in a body, to pay their last respects to one of their members.
Pallbearers were John Sturman, Ben Sturman, Lyle Archer, George Saffel, George Martin and Charles Elliott.
Melissa Clark Baird was born on October 14, 1855, at Coshocton, Ohio. Here she grew up and in 1873 she was married to George Baird. Five years later they moved to Illinois, where they stayed about a year, then coming to Eastern Nebraska for another short period, and in 1885 came to Crawford, Neb., where they took up a homestead. In 1905 they came to a ranch adjacent to Harrison, and in 1908 they came to Wyoming, where they lived with their sons and daughters for a number of years, later buying a place of their own.
Mrs. Baird passed away shortly after midnight Friday morning, April 1, at the age of 76, and leaves her husband, George Baird, of Lusk; Sam Baird of Springfield, Ill., Grover Baird of Lusk; Mrs. C. A. Grimes of Lusk; George Baird of Mitchell, Neb. One child, Joe Baird, preceded her in death. Both Mr. and Mrs. Baird were charter members of the Rebekah Lodge at Crawford.
