County Teasurer Adin Abel Dies Monday Night

County Treasurer Adin Abel, who has been ill with a heart condition and pneumonia in West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff since March 5, died there Monday night about 10 p.m.

He was first elected county treasurer in 1946 and has served since that time. He was 60 years old the day of his death. Living much of his life in Sioux County, he was widely known both as a rancher and public official.

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Memorial Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Victor Ireland officiating.

Meanwhile the County Treasurer's office was closed Tuesday awaiting the arrival of a state auditor, and Deputy Dale DeHaven said that it would be closed Thursday in any event. It will be necessary for the Board of County Commissioners to appoint a treasurer to serve out the unexpired term until the 1962 election.

Mr. Abel had gone to Kimball where Mrs. Abel teaches school to visit his family the week end he became ill, and he was taken to Scottsbluff from there.

Last Rites Held For Adin Abel

Funeral services for Adin L. Abel were conducted Thursday at 2:00 from Methodist Memorial Church in Harrison with the Rev. Victor Ireland officiating. Burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Mr. Abel, county treasurer for the past 14 years, had died at Scottsbluff march 20. He was born March 20, 1901 in Rawlins, Wyo. When quite young his parents moved to Crawford where they lived on a farm. He attended the Crawford schools. In 1918 the family moved to a ranch near Andrews in Sioux county.

Mr. Abel and Edna Mae Hanson were married in 1936. Surviving him besides her are six children: Ann Maree Harris, San Antonio, Tex.; Andrienne Weed, Kimball, Nebr.; Darold, Gayle, Bruce, and Bryce at home; and five grandchildren. There is also a sister, Mrs. Harry DcDerby of Crawford; and three brothers, martin of Ekalaka, Mont., Gilmore of Faith, S. Dak., and Leonard of Ephrata, Wash.

Mr. Abel was a member of the odd Fellow Lodge and was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church.
