Richardsons Learn More About Son

Last August Mr. and Mrs. Allen P. Richardson of Manville received a telegram stating that their son, Private Floyd J. Richardson, was reported missing in action.

Now a letter has been received, and although it is not comforting, it does give a little information as to his disappearance, and to the hope that he may still be found, especially when the war with Germany is over.

The letter follows:

WAR DEPARTMENT
Adjutant General's Office
Washington 25, D.C.
22 February 1945

Mr. Allen P. Richardson,
Manville, Wyoming.

Dear Mr. Richardson:

I am writing you concerning your son, Private Floyd J. Richardson, who has been reported missing in action in France since 26 July 1944.

It is sincerely regretted that no further information regarding the status of your son has reached the War Department. A report has now been received, however, which discloses that on 26 July, Private Richardson was assistant driver of a tank engaged in an attack on St. Gilles, France. When the tank sustained damage from enemy fire, some of the crew members were seen to dismount, but there are no other details available at this time relative to the disappearance of your son.

Lists of prisoners of war received from the enemy, through the International Red Cross, have been carefully checked, but Private Richardson's name has not been found on any of them. The military authorities are utilizing all the means of their disposal to locate our men missing in action, and you may be assured that if any information is received in this office concerning your son, it will be communicated to you without delay.

My sympathy is with you during this long and difficult period of anxiety.

Sincerely yours,

J.A. ULIO.
Major General, the Adj. Gen.
