H. D. Hudson Died At Crawford, May 26

Hugh D. Hudson, of Crawford, Nebraska, father of Mrs. Dorothy Leasendor of Lusk, passed away May 26, 1940, after a lingering illness, at the age of 82 years, eight months and 21 days.

Hugh Hudson was born September 5, 1857 at Doniphan, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Watson and moved to Hull Station, Missouri, where he entered the employ of the C.B. & Q. railroad on March 27, 1879. He was transferred to Crawford, Nebr. May 14, 1906, as section foreman at that place and in which capacity he served until he retired from railroad service after 52 years of active duty on June 1, 1932. His wife preceded him in death, passing away in 1912.

Following his retirement he purchased a home in Crawford and continued to make that city his home. He was a member of the W.O.W. Lodge and the Maintenance of the Way, and early in life both he and his wife were active in the Methodist church. He is survived by two sons, Melvin S. of Jackson, Wyo.; and Jess M., of Sturgis, So. Dak., also two daughters, Maude G. Gastineau of Pine, Colorado; and Dorothy Leasendor of Lusk. He also has one sister, Mrs. Addie McIntire of Topeka, Kan.; eight grandchildren, many nephews and nieces and a host of friends and neighbors who will mourn his passing. Funeral services were held at Crawford, Tuesday, may 28, with Rev R. O. Gaither officiating, and interment was made in the Crawford cemetery.
