Bertha May Krekeler
Bertha May (Baughn) Krekeler, 96, passed away early evening December 19, 2013 at the Niobrara Health and Life Center. Funeral services were held Mon., Dec. 30, 2013, at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lusk.
Bertha was born in Manville, Wyoming on October 24, 1917, to Ray J. and Lugena Jean (Bare) Baughn. Upon graduation from Manville High School In 1936, Bertha worked for Frank Viele at the Lance Creek Drugstore. She moved to Lusk and worked at Willard's Drugstore for Jess Willard, from whom Otto Krekeler and Herb Klindt purchased the store in 1947.
Bertha married Otto Krekeler, a pharmacist, in Lusk October 12, 1941.
Bertha was active in various organizations, including Epsilon Sigma Alpha, American Legion Auxiliary, and Episcopal Ladies Guild when it was in existence, and was a charter member of the Modern Matrons Extension Club. Bertha's grandma Bare is in the book of Wyoming Women.
Bertha was presented a framed proclamation from the Town of Lusk by Mayor Patricia Smith that designated October 24, 2013, Bertha Krekeler Day in recognition of her 96th birthday.
Bertha loved to cook and enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Estella (Baughn) Peet, and a brother Harry Clayton (Buck) Baughn.
She is survived by: her two sons, Randall Sr. (wife Sandra) of Anaheim, California and Richard (wife Marina) of McKinney, Texas; two grandchildren, Randall Krekeler, Jr. (wife Erin) of Annandale, Virginia and Katherine Krekeler of Houston, Texas; two great grandchildren Dylan and Ava Krekeler (Randall Jr. and Erin); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family extends a special thanks to the many caregivers at the Niobrara Health and Life Center and friends in Lusk for all the care and comfort provided to Bertha over the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Niobrara County Library, the Niobrara Health and Life Center or a charity of your choice.
