Tragedy Strikes Jud Brott Home When Accident Claims Life of Small Son, Douglas Brott, 18 Months

Tragedy struck the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jud Brott of Lance Creek early last Saturday afternoon, when their small son, Douglas James, was critically injured in an accident that occurred as the father and several of the children were cleaning out the corral and yard.

Mr. Brott and several of the children were working up near the corral cleaning up some miscellaneous lumber and nails and hauling manure from the barnyard, when Douglas fell from a pickup in which he was riding with his sister, Bonnie, and two brothers, Jake and Ed. The door of the vehicle somehow came open and Douglas tumbled out hitting his head on the running board, and it is believed that the right front wheel passed over his chest while the pickup was being backed up. Specific injuries were cerebral concussion and crushing injury to the right lung.

The parents rushed the child to the Niobrara Memorial Hospital where he passed away within 30 minutes after his arrival.

Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home with Rev. Leroy Train of the Lance Creek Community Church officiating. During the services the Misses Mary Ellen Wilson and Lois Mosier sang "Jesus Loves Me," and "Jewels," with Mrs. Judson P. Watson presiding at the organ. Mrs. Dean Long sang as a solo, "Safe in The Arms of Jesus," with Mrs. Lester Meade accompanying. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

Douglas James Brott was born May 6, 1955 in the Niobrara Memorial Hospital in Lusk, Wyo., and passed away December 1st, 1956 at the age of one year, six months and five days.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jud Brott, two sisters, Bonnie and Frances, seven brothers, Harry, Jake, David, Eddie, Sam and Rusty all of Lance Creek; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry V. Brott of Iowa Park, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. William Munsinger of Modesto, Calif., and numerous other relatives.
