Donald Lee York

Donald Lee York was born November 18, 1924 in Anderson, Missouri to John Earl and Verna Ethel (Thompson) York. As a young boy he moved to Shawnee, Wyoming with his parents because of the coal mining in the area. He received his first year of education in Glenrock, Wyoming and finished at the schools near Shawnee.

On June 12, 1927, he married Donna Louise Browning at the Methodist Church in Douglas, Wyoming. He worked for Art Joss and Jack Morton ranches before ranching on the Bennett Ranch five miles south of Shawnee for five years. The family then moved to upper LaPrele to ranch on the Dana Browning Ranch for five years and in 1957 they began ranching on the McCarty Ranch, 10 miles east of Douglas where they worked until the time of his death.

Mr. York was survived by his wife, Donna of Douglas; children Connie Bower and Butch of Casper, Wyoming; Margie Marler and J. C. of Ottawa, Kansas; David Lee York of Farmington, New Mexico; Sherrie Newton and Charles of Worland, Wyoming; Jeff York of Douglas; and Linda Rhamy and Brace of Douglas; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy York of Shawnee and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Grace B. Wintermote, brother Earl H. York and brother-in-law, Lester Wintermote.
