Robert Emery passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Douglas Care Center in Douglas.

Robert was born on November 17, 1929 in Douglas, Wyoming at the home of Mrs. Chambers, the local librarian. He was the second son of Donovan R. and Bernice (Hazen) Emery, who ranched north of Douglas in Converse and Niobrara counties. He was initially educated in country schools, including two years in a school held in the Emery bunkhouse, then transferred to Douglas where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of Wyoming in pre-veterinary medicine for one year, but did not return as he was needed on the ranch. He was inducted into the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, first being stationed in Japan and then the Philippines where he was part of a survey crew. After returning to the family ranch he was employed by an oil company in Lance Creek, Wyoming during winters, eventually traveling with them to Montana as part of a survey crew. He then returned to the family ranch.

He married Dorothy Jean (House) Kirn on November 2, 1972. The couple made their home on the family ranch, Lightening Creek Livestock, until the ranch was sold in 1978. He and Dorothy then built a home in Lusk, Wyoming. For several years he worked for MacJack in Lance Creek. He and Dorothy purchased a campground in the 1980's and spent the next 21 years lavishing love and attention on the business and the campers who stopped. During this time, many of the campers became good friends with and would return to Lusk each year to stay at the campground for a visit. Bob took great pleasure in assuring the grounds and buildings were immaculately maintained. He also had many hours of visiting and storytelling.

Bob was a kind, caring person always attempting to assure those around him were comfortable and well cared for. He was a wonderful step-father. He loved to laugh, tell jokes, and swap stories. He was the king of questions. He could ask fifty questions about the simplest of topics and always come up with one more when it appeared the topic was exhausted.

Bob was a proud 64 year member of the Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8. He loved to fly his plane, ride motorcycles, and research anything motorized.

He is survived by his two step-daughters, Mary Ellen (Bob) Werner of Douglas and Alice Kirn of Lusk, Wyoming and three nephews, Bert, George, and Ben Emery and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donovan, on April 12, 1973 and Bernice, on August 6, 1975; his beloved Dorothy Jean on May 3, 2013; and brother, Donovan H. Emery, on October 18, 1990.

A memorial to the choice of the donor would be appreciated by the family.

Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Smith, Reed Smith, Carl Smith, Bert Emery, George Emery, and Ben Emery.

The Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming was in charge of the arrangements.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.gormanfh.com
