Mark had a varied livelihood which began as a summer worker at Guernsey State Park and Glendo State Park under the supervision of Dennis Krionderis. Upon graduation from the University of Wyoming, Otto Shaffer hired him to work at the Guernsey Stone Quarry.

While playing golf with his uncle Larry McDaniel he began another adventure by joining Larry and his wife Kathy Zumbrunnen McDaniel in the busy oil business in the Green River/Rock Springs area in 1979.

Following the closing of the McDaniel business, he went to work with the True Oil Company of Casper, Wyoming. The McDaniels went to Africa serving AIDS orphans for the church. Mark also enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. His favorite fishing spot was Meadow Lark Lake in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming.
