Graveside services for Mary Welsch Kirchhefer, 90, were May 30, 1997, in Valley View Cemetery with the Rev. Nancy Tiegreen officiating. Memorials are to the South Goshen Presbyterian Church in Yoder.

She died at Goshen Care Center on May 27, 1997.

She was born March 18, 1907, somewhere at sea, to Phillip and Mary (Hartman) Welsch. She attended school in Lincoln, Neb., and Lingle. She and Fred H. Kirchhefer were married Aug. 27, 1928, at the Kirchhefer homestead near Jay Em. They farmed there until 1935. They lived in several different places before purchasing a farm near Yoder. She was overcome by carbon monoxide poisoning, which later resulted in the need for nursing home care. Her husband died in 1969 and she moved to the Goshen Care Center in 1974.

Survivors include son Dick of Yoder; brother Chris Welsch of Lincoln; sisters Emma Greenwald of Torrington and Edythe Butts of Lincoln, Neb.; sister-in-law Mrs. Albert Welsch of Lincoln; step-brother Harry Adolph of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a great-granddaughter, two brothers and one sister.
