H. A. Schmidt Dies in Douglas Aug. 17

Herbert Arthur Schmidt, 65, of Dull Center died Aug. 17 in the Memorial Hospital at Douglas. Mr. Schmidt was a prominent northwest Niobrara County rancher.

Mr. Schmidt was born January 25, 1891 in McCook, Nebr., the son of John and Kathrine Schmidt. Prior to World War I he homesteaded in Logan County, Nebr., and in 1917 he entered the army serving as a corporal in the 355th Infantry Regiment of the 8th Division. He was disabled in the war and came to Wyoming in 1922 to make his home with two brothers on their ranch in northern Niobrara County near Dull Center where he resided until the time of his death. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Douglas and the American Legion.

Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 20, at 10:00 at St. James Church with Father Martin Collett officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Park Cemetery with the American Legion in charge.

Surviving Mr. Schmidt are two sisters, Mrs. John J. Keegan of Washington, D.C., and Lillian Schmidt of Bill; four brothers, Edmund and Joseph of Denver, and William and Ted of Dull Center; and several nieces and nephews.
