Rex Eugene Shoults

Rex Eugene Shoults, age 92, passed away Dec. 1st, 2015 at the Niobrara Health and Life Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 7th at the Niobrara Co. Fairgrounds Auditorium, and burial followed at the Lusk Cemetery. Rex was born August 15th, 1923 to James Alan and Olive (Bailey) Shoults in Casper, WY. Six years later the family moved to Jay Em, WY where his father started the Shoults Garage and Blacksmith Shop. Rex later joined his father in the operation of the business. He attended school at Jay Em, Moore Springs, and graduated from Torrington High School in 1941, where he also held the pole vault record for many years.

Rex married Lucille Larson on May 10th, 1944. The couple lived in Lusk where Rex worked as a welder for Culver and Son and later as a mechanic at Wasson Chevrolet. In 1946 He joined the US Army, serving through 1947 and was a member of the 1st American Legion Post in VanTassell, WY. Rex and Lucille had a son, Ronald, in 1949. A few years later, Lucille's father talked Rex into working with him as a rancher. The family then moved to the ranch near Van Tassell in 1952, where Rex spent his remaining years. This year Rex and Lucille celebrated their 71st anniversary.

Rex belonged to the Congregational Church in Lusk and later attended the Node Sunday School. He was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. Rex enjoyed living on the ranch and working with his family and neighbors. He had a love for livestock and horses, music, dancing, and was a perfectionist at fixing and repairing all sorts of projects.

Rex is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Wesley (Velma), and sister Thelma Harris (Jim). He is survived by his wife Lucille, son Ronald (Georgia), four grandchildren, Travis, Skeeter (Carla), Hannah, and Jayci, as well as nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Node Sunday School, the Niobrara County Library, or a memorial of choice.

Pier Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
