Father of Mrs. Violet Smith Dies Monday

Lee J. Hurt, 85, of Spearfish, S. D. and father of Mrs. Violet Smith of Lusk, died Monday in the Spearfish Nursing Home from complications of old age. Funeral services are to be held this Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the Methodist Church at Newcastle.

Survivors include his wife Clara Belle; three sons, Walter, Clarence of Kelso, Wash. and Robert of Sheridan; three daughters, Mrs. Lelah Morse, Midwest, Mrs. Lloyd Cole, Sundance and Mrs. Violet Smith of Lusk.

Last Rites for Lee J. Hurt Held at Newcastle

Funeral services for Lee J. Hurt, father of Mrs. Violet Smith of Lusk, were held Thursday afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Newcastle. Bryan Clark officiated at the services. Burial was made in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Mr. Hurt's grandsons, Delbert, Charles and James Smith, Harry Morse, Eddie Lockwood and Clifford Blaney.

Lee J. Hurt was born November 12, 1871 at Brainerd, Minn. In 1902 he married Clara Belle Sloan at Sioux City, Ia. Mr. Hurt was a rancher in Weston county and operated a feed store in Newcastle for many years.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Violet Smith of Lusk, Mrs. Lloyd Cole, Sundance and Mrs. Newton Morse, Midwest; three sons, Walter J., Rivera, Calif., Clarence B., Kelso, Wash., and Robert L. of Sheridan; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Oscar Crouch, Mrs. Guy Maxey and Floyd Hurt all living in Sioux City, Ia.; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. A daughter, Louise, and a son, Woodrow, previously died.
