Robert "Bob" Garnett Hladky

Bob Hladky, age 86, of Lusk, passed away on Friday evening, August 25th, 2017 at the Niobrara Community Hospital in Lusk. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 30th at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium in Lusk. Private inurnment will take place in the Lusk Cemetery.

Robert Garnett “Bob” Hladky was born on December 25, 1930 in Moorcroft, Wyoming to Erman Ernest Hladky and Lulu Marie (Gibson) Hladky. He was raised in Campbell County, WY.

He graduated from Campbell County High School in 1949. After a short work time in central Nebraska, he made his way to the Patrick Brothers Hereford Ranch north of Lingle, Wyoming in 1950, where he was hired as a cowboy, and became foreman a few years later.

In 1958, he married Shirley Seaman of Harrison, Nebraska. In 1969, after nearly twenty years at Patrick Brothers, Bob moved his family up Rawhide Creek to work for Richard T. “Bucky” and Nila Barnette. The family lived at the location of the Rawhide Stage Station on the Cheyenne-Deadwood stage route at the Agnew Ranch, and later moved up the creek to the Ord Ranch. Bob and Shirley purchased their own ranch in 1975 on the Goshen/Niobrara county line on Highway 85 within sight of Rawhide Buttes, where they built their herd of cattle, finished raising their kids, and later retired.

Bob was a founding member of the Goshen County Roping Club, and a former member of the Niobrara Roping Club. Bob competed in local ropings and rodeos as a calf roper and team roper, and when offered, the wild cow milking event. In 2015 he was inducted into the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame. An honor he was very humbled by.

Bob was also involved in the Legend of Rawhide Pageant in Niobrara County. Bob enjoyed attending the many school athletic and other events his children and grandchildren participated in. During his children’s school years he served on the Goshen County and Niobrara County school boards, as well as numerous other boards and committees. He was a member of the Lusk Congregational Church and Harmony Lodge #2 in Lusk.
He is preceded in death by his parents, little brother Clifford Hladky and little sister Audrey Hladky.
Survivors include his wife Shirley, daughters Bobbi (Mike) Wade of LaBarge, WY., Tracy (David) Johnson of Lingle, WY., Sheri (John) Hester of Keeline, WY., son Troy (Cindy) Hladky of Thermopolis, WY., Grandchildren, Amanda (Dusty) Stath, Emily Wade, Kodi Johnson, Kelli Johnson, Hayden Hester, Drew Hester, June (Tommy) Mills, Brock Hladky, Lance (Jayde) Hladky, Zane Hladky; great-grandchildren Keagan Mills, Ryker Hladky, brother Delano B. “Spike” (Margaret) Hladky of Gillette, WY., and numerous nieces and nephews.
