Edith Rosellen Hoffman
Edith Rosellen Parker Hoffman was born on August 4, 1916, in Rockford Illinois to Verne S. and Florence M. Parker. She grew up on a ranch outside of Lusk, Wyoming with her two sisters, Margaret and Della. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1933.
Edith attended the University of Wyoming and attended Chadron State College. She received a degree in Sociology. She also got a teaching certificate and taught school in the Cheyenne River area, Manville, Saratoga and Joplin Missouri.
On July 21, 1945, she married Donald M. Hoffman, also of Lusk, Wyoming. They were married in Joplin, Missouri while Donald served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war the couple returned to Wyoming and lived in Lance Creek while Don worked for Conoco and Edith taught school in Manville.
In December, 1955, the couple moved to Casper, Wyoming as Donald took a job at True Drilling. In November of 1957, Edith and Don had their only child, daughter Kim. In 1975 Edith and Don divorced and Edith continued living in Casper and worked as a bookkeeper for Griswold Casing Service and Wyatt Service station until her retirement at the age of 80.
Edith was a very social person. She bowled, was active in PTA, helped on the Steering Committee to build the original YMCA building, participated in League of Women voters and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Casper, both as Elder and Deacon. She also enjoyed Water Exercise at the YMCA. Her biggest passion besides her church, was cards. She never turned down a card game whether it was Bridge of Pinochle! She was a member of many card clubs and was loved by all who played with her.
Edith became an grandmother for the first time in August, 1979. Grandson David was born to daughter Kim and her husband Mike. They had two more sons, James and Mark. Edith loved her grandsons dearly and attended all their sporting events, band concerts, piano recitals, and she also taught all three of them how to drive.
Edith had a BIG 100th birthday a little over a year ago and over 275 people attended. Edith truly loved life, people, her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Verne S. and Florence M. Parker, her eldest sister Margaret Smith, and her younger sister, Della Siekert. She is survived by her daughter Kim (Mike) Brattis, 3 grandsons, David Brattis, James (Brittanie) Brattis, and MiKe Brattis, four great-grandchildren, Sidney, Makai, Michael and Emmy Brattis and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made in her name to First Presbyterian EPC, or to the Casper Family YMCA new pool fund.
