Lifelong Lusk resident dies at age 92. Bud spent his final days surrounded by family and friends in his HighPointe Assisted Living residence in Denver, where he has lived for the past 3.5 years.

Bud loved Lusk, Wyoming and lived more than 85 years in the area. His childhood was spent at a country home in Lance Creek, attending Manville High School before he saw action in WWII.

He was a paratrooper with the 513th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which formed part of the 17th Airborne Division and participated in the "Battle of the Bulge", was injured and earned his first Purple Heart honor. After recuperation, he rejoined his unit completing the first combat drop into Germany. While most of his unit was destroyed, he survived. Although badly wounded, Bud overcame the handicaps of his injuries which were noticeable only to those who knew him best.

Following his war years, he returned to Lusk marrying Betty Lincoln in 1946.

Bud worked in the Lance Creek oil field for Continental Oil Company before he and his lat e wife, Betty Allen, purchased the 'Best Western' Pioneer Court Motel in 1959 which they operated for the next 24 years.

Bud's talent for building and design is evident in 3 houses that he built in Lusk. He also participated in the construction of the Senior Center, the Library annex and on-site buildings at the Fair Grounds.

Bud passed away peacefully one week after being honored in a military service recognition program held in his honor at HighPointe Assisted Living.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Niobrara County Senior Center.

Bud's return to Lusk will be completed at a memorial service at 10 AM at the Congregational Church followed by a military honors burial service on Friday, October 27, 2017.

Pier Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to pierfh.com
