Susanne Burnham “Sue” Cross,75, who went to be with her Lord and her beloved husband, Tim on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at her home of natural causes in Wheatland, Wyoming.

She was born on September 16, 1942 in Los Angeles, California to Gale Ewing and Ruth Ellen (King) Burnham.

She lived on several Army bases including Muscogee, Oklahoma where she used to laughingly say she made her stage debut. While at the movies with her mother one day when she was three years old she “escaped” and climbed up on the stage and learned to make shadow people until she was removed by an employee. She was also known to serenade the passengers of the troop trains when traveling as a toddler. That was a very short career.

When she was five years old her family moved to Lusk, Wyoming where she attended school and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1960.
In 1958 she married Warren “Gene” Coleman and they had two daughters. In 1967 she married Charles V. Sommers and they had one daughter.

In 1983 she married George “Tim” Cross III and spent twenty-eight happy years until his death in 2011.

In 1979 she went back to school, becoming a bookkeeper while also training to work as an EMT on the Glendo Ambulance. She opened her own bookkeeping practice in 1980 and in 1985 added tax accounting. She operated this business until her retirement in 2014.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Gale Coleman Jansing; and husband, Tim Cross.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Coleman Newsom of Hope, Arkansas and Stephanie S. Sommers of Wheatland; step children, George “Red” (Lona) Cross IV and Lea (Howard) Walker both of Douglas, Wyoming; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice (Sam) Fleet of Sugar Creek, Missouri and Dana Vineyard of Wheatland, Wyoming; brother, Jon (Jan) Burnham of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and family of her heart.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favorite charity in her name.

Sue did not want a sad funeral but instead a summertime picnic of food and family and laughter. This is tentatively planned for June 2018.

Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
