John Stiles

John Stiles, 84, of Findlay, Ohio passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Thursday, November 15th, 2018, surrounded by his family, friends and caregivers in the comfort of The Legacy, the memory care unit of The Heritage nursing home in Findlay.

John was born in Lusk, Wyoming in 1934 to the late Irene (Orr) and Henry “Hank” Stiles. He married Betty (Fox) Stiles in July 1966 in Arcadia, Ohio who preceded him in death earlier in 2018. Also surviving are his children David (Sue) Stiles of West Chester, Ohio and Janet Stiles of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren: Grant, Zach, and Will Stiles; brother in laws Kenneth “Bill” (Sheila) Fox of Fostoria, Ohio and John “Bob” Newell of Jay Em, Wyoming. He is preceded in death by his sister Catherine “Kay” Newell.

John grew up in the oil field community of Lance Creek, Wyoming where he and his family were surrounded by many wonderful families working and living together. He graduated from Lusk High School and the University of Wyoming. He was in the U.S. Army for two years in the mid-1950s, stationed mostly in West Germany.

In 1960, John began his career in Casper, Wyoming as an accountant for the Ohio Oil Company (now Marathon Oil Company). In 1963 he was transferred to Findlay, Ohio. It was here where he met his wife Betty and became part of the Findlay community. John remained with Marathon Oil until his retirement in 1995, marking 35 years with the company.

John was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church congregation in Findlay. As well as a long serving member and volunteer with the Gideons of Hancock County.

John enjoyed many interests including American history, Wyoming history, reading, and traveling. John dearly loved spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He always had a kind word to share or a silly “zinger” to make them smile.

Visitation for John will be on Monday, November 19, 2018, from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm in the HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME, 201 Osborn Ave., Findlay, Ohio 45840. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 10:00 am until the time of John’s Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky St., Findlay, Ohio 45840, Pastors Jeff Motter and Cathy Davis officiating.

Memorial contributions may be gifted in John’s honor to Gideon’s International, the University of Wyoming Foundation, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family would like to especially thank John’s good friend Shari Schoonover of Benton Ridge, Ohio and the doctors and staff at the Christ Hospital Health & Aging Center in Cincinnati, Ohio and the staff at The Legacy for their kindness and compassion for John through his journey.
