Lorraine Gerl Divver

Lorraine Gerl Divver was born on Aug. 5, 1921 in Glendo, Wyo. to Joseph and Irene Gerl. She was their only child. At the age of 76, Lorraine died on Friday evening, Feb. 20, 1998 of liver cancer at Autumn Care Center.

After completing her schooling, she obtained a teaching degree from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, Neb., and returned to Lusk to teach school. There she met Joseph Divver, to whom she became engaged as WWII began. They were married in Marfa, Tex. In March of 1942, when Mr. Divver graduated from bomber pilot's school . While her husband was stationed in India as a bomber pilot, Lorraine returned to Lusk to live with her parents and await the return of her husband. Mr. Divver was employed by Continental Oil Company and due to his work, they and their family lived in Lance Creek, Frannie, Powell, Casper and Glenrock, Wyo. and for a time in Louisville, Ky. Later in Mr. Divver's career, he was transferred to Billings, Mont. Lorraine and Joe were married for 31 years when her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1973.

Lorraine was an active member for the Senior Citizens, where she served on it's Board of Directors for a number of years. She was a member of the Yellowstone Historical Society, St. Thomas Parish and it's St. Rose of Lima circle. She also worked as a volunteer for the Deaconess Medical Center and for many years was active in the American Legion Auxillary. She always enjoyed a wide circle of friends and interests.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Margaret. Survivors include one daughter and son and their spouses and six grandchildren; Lorraine Gallinger and Ken Tolliver of Billings, Mont.; and grandchildren; KC, Matt Dave and Sean; Pat and Debbie Divver of Franklin Lakes, N.J. and grandchildren Joe and Mary Alexa.

Should friends desire, memorials may be sent to Big Sky Hospice, the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.

A rosary was held at 7:00 p. m. on Monday, Feb. 23 at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Alderson Chapel in Billings, Mont. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Shoshoni, Wyo. along side her husband, daughter and parents.
