Mary Hoblit passed away peacefully on March 6, 2019.

Mary Ann (Roberts) Hoblit was born July 28, 1918 at the family homestead near Hat Creek to Lucy and Rulo Roberts. She attended school at the Hat Creek schoolhouse which remains standing today. She graduated from Lusk High School in May of 1936 and soon after started to work as a bookkeeper for Jake Lorenzen at the Hiway Super Texaco Station and also at the Texaco Bulk Station from 1936 to 1940. She was also employed at the Wyo Theatre for Stan Feinstun. That location is now gone.

She met Graydon “Bud” Hoblit at a Manville dance and knew she had met the love of her life. One year later they married on November 18, 1939 at the Baptist Church. Together she and Bud purchased the Wilson Hamburger Shop from Frank Wilson which they owned until 1943 when they sold it and moved to Casper where Bud worked in the oil fields. They returned to Lusk in 1946 and purchased the house she lived in until 2016. She then resided at the Cozy Corner until her death.

She worked in the grade school cafeteria from 1957 to 1977. The last fifteen years she was the food service manager. She retired after twenty years then began work at the Quality Shop for Agnes Burge. After Agnes’ death she worked for Vic and Velma Leno who purchased the Quality Shop until it closed in 1987. She worked part-time at the Branding Iron Gift Shop for Betty Leimser.

She joined the First Baptist Church on August 21, 1965 where she remained an active member teaching Sunday school and held numerous positions in the church.

She was a Charter member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Hat Creek Ladies Club and a marathon pinochle club. She enjoyed playing cards, playing pool and visiting friends. She loved music and her many memories of all the dances they went to over the years. She got to travel to Disneyland in California, Branson, Nashville, Dollywood and many other bus trips.

The joy of her life were her kids. They will probably never realize how proud their Dad and she were of them.

She is survived by her four daughters, Peggy Gouvisis (Tom) of Salt Lake, Linda Powell of Casper, Jan Hytrek (Dale) of Lusk and Vicky Reline (Jim) of Coleman, TX. Also six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three nephews and two nieces.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bud, her parents, two brothers, one granddaughter, one son-in-law and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Cozy Corner and/or First Baptist Church in Lusk.
