Floyd F. Cowell

A graveside service for Floyd F. Cowell, 92, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019 at the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland with Pastor Tom Peacock of the United Methodist Church officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Ora Call American Legion Post No. 10, Laramie Peak VFW Post 3558, and the Navy Honor Guard.

Floyd passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019 at the Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland.

Floyd was born Sunday, April 24, 1927 in Crawford, Neb. to Louise (Brickel) and Robert Cowell. He was an only child.

Floyd graduated in 1944 from Lusk High School in Lusk. Immediately after graduation, at 17 years of age, he went into the United States Navy where he served his country in the United States and in the Philippine Islands until World War II was over.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy Floyd studied at Barnes Business School in Denver, Colo. He then went to work with seismographers, electricians and did small and large construction jobs. In November, 1960 he started working at the Wheatland REA as wireman and continued in this position until May 1, 1966 at which time he took over the responsibilities of purchasing, inventory-control and work order clerk. Floyd retired from REA on May 12, 1995.

Floyd liked to fish and go boating with his Dad. He loved cars, pickups and motorcycles and enjoyed going to Sturgis, S.D. for the motorcycle rally. Many years he took Louise, his mother, with him because she enjoyed visiting with the bikers.

Since March, 2007 Floyd resided at Country Club Living until, he entered Platte County Legacy Home in December 2018.

Floyd is survived by Jim and Rodene Meyer and many other friends. He was a true hero, patriot and a brave member of the “Greatest Generation”!

A memorial to the Services for Seniors, 1605 Sixteenth Street, Wheatland, would be appreciated by his friends.
