Evyline Ruth (Bitsy) Duncan

Mass of Christian Burial for Evyline (Bitsy) Duncan, 67, of Fort Pierre, S. D., was held June 19, 2003, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Pierre. Burial was in the Scoty Phillip Cemetery.

Evyline Duncan died June 15, 2003, in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Evyline Ruth Duncan was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Fort Pierre, S. D., to Artis Charles and Mollie Hackett.

She married William Kinston Newsome in 1952, and to this union five children were born. She made her home in Fort Pierre.

On Nov. 10, 1979 she married James J. Duncan, and to this union one child was born.

In July of 2000 she retired from the State of South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department after 27 years. Before working at Game Fish and Parks, she worked for the State Library for a few years. When she was in high school she worked at Lafa's Cafe.

Bitsy was a long time member of St. John's Catholic Church.

She loved to attend all her grandchildren's events. She was an avid camper and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed being with family and friends, and there was always a fun family get-together on the deck of their home on the Fourth of July.

Bitsy is survived by her husband, James of Fort Pierre; her children, Diane Cannon and husband John of Lusk, Jo Mikkelsen and husband Jerry of Fort Pierre, Neal Newsome and wife Carla of San Antonio, Texas, Lori Teeters and husband Scott of Longview, Wash., Pam Duncan of Fort Pierre; sisters Nettie and Don Lammon of Fort Pierre, Marie Gannon of Rapid City, Rose Lee Dye of Abertson, Ga., Ona and Pete Clark of Houston, Texas, Bill and Cathy Hackett of Sturgis; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son Randy and a brother Bud Hackett.
