Billy DesEnfants
Billy DesEnfants came into this world on April 12, 1932. Born in Lusk to parents William and Nina DesEnfants, he was later joined by his sister Peggy Ann.
Prairie Center was home to the ranch that was homesteaded in 1913 by Billy’s grandfather. Attending Prairie Center School through 10th grade, Billy went on to graduate in 1950 from Torrington High School.
Serving in the Army from 1952-1954, Billy returned home to marry his sweetheart, Bonnie Shane. They established their own ranch raising polled Herefords and there they raised their two boys, Doug and Greg.
In the fall of 1984, Billy and Bonnie relocated to Torrington and turned their ranch over to the boys. He spent many hours doing machine work and doing repairs for the boys. Many a windmill head was rebuilt in Billy’s shop. His favorite project of all was rebuilding a Model T from scratch. Driving his 33 Chevy also brought him great joy.
Twenty-two winters were spent in Casa Grande, Arizona in the Val Vista Park where a home away from home was established. Many life long friends were made there. Music was an important part of Billy’s Arizona life, and continued at home as he played with the Old Time fiddlers. Many hours were spent strumming and picking his guitar.
Billy is survived by his bride of 66 years, Bonnie, sons Doug and wife Kim, and Greg and wife Peg. Grandchildren who will miss their Grandpa Billy are Dodi Walters (Eric), Ty DesEnfants (Sara), Curtis DesEnfants (Stephanie), and Cole DesEnfants along with great-grands, Adelle, Evelyn, Heidi, Brenly, Joey and Sophie.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister.
