The whole community was shocked last Thursday morning to hear of the sudden death of Benjamin Heckert, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Heckert.

This is the second time in ten months that death has visited this home , and is almost more than the grief-stricken parents can bear.

He entered the service of Uncle Sam on Sept. 5, when he went to Ft. Riley, Kansas, at which place he was taken sick and after a few days' illness died of pneumonia.

Benjamin Franklin Heckert was born in Ohio, February 20th, 1893, and died at Ft. Riley, Kansas, Oct. 17th, 1918, aged 25 years, 7 months and 27 days.

He leaves to mourn his death father, mother, two sisters and seven brothers, one of these also being in the service of Uncle Sam at Camp Dodge, Iowa.

The remains arrived at Van Tassell from Fort Riley Monday morning, and were laid to rest in the cemetery south of town where a host of friends had gathered to pay their last respects to the memory of the deceased.

"Gone, but not forgotten."
