Rolla Allen Ross

Rola Allen Ross was born September 20, 1966, the second child and only son of Riley and Sandra Mayhan Ross, in Lusk. He died at home on Sunday, February 20, 2022. He grew up on the family ranch north of Lance Creek and graduated from Lance Creek Elementary in 1981. He attended Niobrara County High School, from which he graduated in 1985. Upon graduation, Rola joined the United States Air Force and served his country for four years in Korea, Hawaii, Alaska and South Dakota, returning to the family ranch in 1989. On May 8, 1998, his twin sons, Riley Allen and Timothy Joseph, were born in Casper. Their births defined the focal point for the rest of his life. On July 13 of the same year, Rola was involved in a serious car crash that left him a paraplegic. Still, with the help of his mother Sandy and sister Selena he raised his two sons as a single parent. He followed their high school football and wrestling careers, seldom missing an event. When they left for college, the three maintained their close bonds long distance. In 2014 he was elected the mayor of Manville, a service he performed with great dedication and determination and greatly enhanced the local community. He studied grant writing and researched programs that restored the local school building into a community center, erected a multi-activity playground at the local park, drilled a new city well and was working on an upgrade for the city’s water system. Mourning his loss are his mother Sandy of Lance Creek, his sons Riley and Tim of Laramie, his sister Selena Ross of Lance Creek, his nephew Kasey (Michelle) Rising of Casper, two nieces Shira Ross of Lance Creek and Kaylynn Thoman of Oklahoma and a great-niece and a great-nephew. He was predeceased by his father, Riley, his sister, Sonja Thoman and his closest childhood friend, Roy Bleak.
