Orvin Gene Barkman

Orvin, 81, passed away peacefully at home after his battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be announced and held at a later date.

Orvin was born in Torrington, the son of Alfred and Erma Barkman. He grew up and graduated high school in Veteran. He attended the University of Wyoming and later enlisted with the Navy in February 1965, where he also served during the Vietnam War.

After his discharge in February 1969, began farming in the Lingle area. He married Betty Malm in 1976 and they had a daughter, Amber. They later divorced.

In 1988, he married his soulmate and loving wife, Irene Morgan. Together, they started Barkman Roofing, Inc., which served a large portion of southeast Wyoming. Together, they enjoyed long weekend drives, doing roof estimates and visiting with so many people around the area. He enjoyed family gatherings, hiking and relaxing at Laramie Peak, as well as building things and organizing his shop. He was a member of Farmer’s Union and was active in the American Agriculture movement.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, of Torrington, his daughter, Amber (Troy) of Cheyenne, stepdaughters, Brenda (Deanen) of Veteran, Leatha (Pat) of Lingle, Michelle of Lexington, Kentucky, Jennifer (Lee) of Strasburg, Colorado, and stepson, Todd (Justina) of Wellington, Colorado; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sisters, Selma (Robert) of Washington, and Arlene (Fred) of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred, sister, Helen, stepson, Jody, nieces, Colleen and Lena, and nephew, Nathan.
