Melanie Ann Barndt, 49, passed away at her home in Lusk, Thursday, May 25, 2023.

Melanie Ann (Gigi) Barndt was born December 27, 1973, in Beaverlodge, Alberta, Canada. She passed away unexpectedly on May 25, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held June 19, 2023, at 10:00 at Pier Funeral Home. She grew up in Wyoming until 8th grade when her dad was transferred to Texas with his work at Holly Sugar. She spent the next 5 years in Hereford, TX.

The next several years, she worked as a dispatcher for an answering service, as a homemaker, waitress, and a bus driver transporting children to public and private school. She raised her daughters in Texas and moved to Wyoming in 2015. Her greatest accomplishment above all was becoming a Correctional Officer for the Wyoming Women’s Center. She worked for WWC for 7.5 years rising to the rank of Corporal. She was known as Corporal Barndt.

Melanie had a very kind and compassionate heart and put others’ interests ahead of her own. She loved her girls and John with all of her being and gave her love and time to her grandsons. She could make anyone smile and loved animals. Family was very important to her. Melanie was funny and entertaining and enjoyed many genres of music. She enjoyed traveling to visit Aleshia at different locations while she was serving in the Air Force. Melanie is very bright and excelled in academics and assignments.

She is survived by her daughters Brittany (John) of Lusk, WY, Aleshia of San Antonio, TX; her parents, Ralph and Sharon Barndt of Lusk, WY; Siblings Lynnita (Craig) Jessen of Richardson, TX; Layne (Kim) Barndt of Post Falls, ID; Lori (Abe) Badeen of Bentonville, AR; Lisa (JD) Williams of Lusk, WY; Grandchildren Jaden, Levi and Zeek of Lusk, WY. She is also loved and remembered by many nieces and nephews, friends, and coworkers.
