James "Jim" Odair Brown

Memorial services for James Odair Brown, 94, will be held at Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington, WY, at 10:00 a.m. on July 14, 2025, with Juile Newman officiating. Military honors will follow at Valley View Cemetery, with a reception at the Elks Lodge immediately after the service. Jim passed away on July 1, 2025, at Brookdale Mariana Butte in Loveland, Colorado. Memorials can be made to the Boy’s State Program to the Cheyenne Post #6 in Jim’s name. James (Jim) was born in Jay Em, Wyoming, on December 18, 1930. He had four sisters: Joan, Josephine, Audrey, and Karen, and two brothers: Lucene (Bud) and Raymond. In 1939, the family moved to Torrington, Wyoming, where Jim graduated high school in 1949. During his senior year, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Kinkade. They were married in 1951 in Tacoma, Washington. To this union, five children were born. In 1951, Jim joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years during the Korean War. He had a lifelong love of cars and turned that passion into a business in 1960 when he opened Deluxe Body Shop in Torrington, Wyoming. He owned and operated the shop for 25 years. After selling the business, he stayed busy driving buses for Diversified Services, Eastern Wyoming College, District 1, and the Senior Center. Jim is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Jean Kinkade; his children Linda Crowell (Jim) of Summerset, SD; Margaret Herdt of Loveland, CO; and Spencer Brown (Susan) of Boise, ID. He is also survived by his sisters Audrey Brown of Guernsey, WY, and Karen Brown of Torrington, WY; ten grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Joan Milnes and Josephine Haynes; brothers Lucene (Bud) Brown and Raymond Brown; his infant son, James Kent Brown; and daughter, Nancy Jean Brown.
