Judith Linda Lucas passed away peacefully at Niobrara County Hospital’s extended care unit on September 23, 2025.

Judith Linda Lessard was born to Robert Wellington Lessard and Mary Beatrice (Sullivan) Lessard on July 22, 1949, in Rochester New Hampshire. Following Robert and Bea’s Divorce in 1951, Bea and her three children traveled to Wyoming with Bea’s parents, Fred and Betty Sullivan and their children, Judy and Linda. The family settled in Lusk at that time, where she spent most of the rest of her life. Judy often spoke of her time spent in the orphanage in Torrington along with siblings Dianne and Bob. The three children were reunited with their mother following Bea’s marriage to a loving stepfather, Donald Robert Carpenter, who ultimately adopted them, giving them his last name and loving them as his own.

Judy Carpenter attended Lusk Elementary School and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1967. After graduation she moved to Casper and worked for the Mountain Bell Phone company as a phone operator. While in Casper she met and fell in love with Rudolph Norman Weeks. She married him in December 1968, and they were joined by a daughter, Tina, in May of 1969 and again by another daughter, Carmen, in March of 1972. Judy and her two daughters returned to Lusk in 1975 where she worked in a variety of jobs to provide for her family. She settled in and loved working at the Fireside Inn, owned by Norm and Cathy Brillhart, for years. She remarried twice more in her lifetime to Michael Tybroski and Sydney Lucas. Judy worked many different jobs while in Lusk, including working for Wyoming Women’s Center correc- tional facility, Niobrara County School

District, Decker’s Food Center and the Lusk Herald. In 2004 Judy moved to Kansas City, Kansas, with her daughter Carmen and her grandson Gavin. During this time, she worked at McDonald’s and found her true love, which was writing articles based on Lusk History and sending these articles back to Lusk to be published in the Lusk Her- ald. Recounting the history of Lusk and Lusk businesses brought Judy enjoyment beyond measure and touched many people (some of whom she didn’t know). Judy moved back to the town she loved writing about so much in 2009. There was only one thing that she loved more than writing articles for the newspaper and that was her family and friends. She loved to crochet baby blankets and gifts for friends and family and was working on some of those gifts until the very end.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; Beatrice and Donald Carpenter, Robert Lessard, and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by a sister Dianne Allen and Dianne’s three children and their children, a brother Robert “Bob” Carpenter, a daughter Tina (Curtiss) Christianson, daughter Carmen Weeks, five grandchildren Gavin Weeks, Seth Barnes, Amber Christianson, Aaron Christianson and Ashley Christian- son, a great-grand daughter Aria Weeks and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

She specified in life that she did not want a funeral or a graveside. A memorial service will be announced in the future. If desired, memorials can be made in her name to St. Jude’s as this was an organization that was close to her heart.

Pier Funeral Home in Lusk was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
