***************
Stanley Bruce Rennard, age 80, lifelong resident of Mule Creek Jct., passed away at the Weston County Manor in Newcastle on May 27, 2026, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Stan was born March 19, 1946, in Lusk, Wyoming, to Samuel and Vivian Rennard. He attended Cheyenne River grade school and graduated from Niobrara County High School in 1964, before spending the next two years in Denver attending an auto mechanics trade school.
Stan married Marlene Black in 1970 and together they raised two children on the Rennard family ranch near Mule Creek Jct. Jennifer Jo was born December 22, 1973, and Tye Brian was born October 1, 1977. Tye was killed in August of 1985 in an accident near the Cheyenne River school.
While working on the family ranch, Stan started building up his own cow herd. He became involved in Holistic Range Management and eventually bought the Porcupine Forest allotment in the Black Hills. He summered his cattle on the allotment and wintered them back on the family ranch in northern Niobrara County. Taking care of the land meant a lot to Stan; he took real pride in land stewardship, monitoring the grass and moving the cattle to keep the rangeland in good shape. He enjoyed just about every part of ranching, but trailing the cattle back home every fall and the spring branding season were two of his favorite jobs.
When he wasn't working, Stan was usually found roping, playing pool, or visiting with neighbors. He spent many years roping at the Niobrara County Roping Club and loved getting together with everyone at the Friday night Mule Creek Junction community gatherings. He was also an avid pool player, spending most of his time playing in Edgemont and traveling around South Dakota to compete in tournaments.
Stan enjoyed volunteering for community activities. He was a longtime supporter of 4-H, regularly attending events and sponsoring prizes because he liked to see the youth succeed, especially the kids in the horse projects. He was also active in the Legend of Rawhide for many years, serving on the board and taking on many different roles, including driving a team, riding as an outrider, and carrying Clyde out. He was passionate about restoring old wood things back to their original condition and rebuilt some wagons for the pageant and tinkered and spent many hours on other little projects. Stan was also involved with the local fire department; there was always a fire truck stationed at Mule Creek Junction, and he was always willing to lend a hand for his friends and neighbors.
Stan is survived by his sisters Cheryll Christianson and Carol Sutherland. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Boe Kottwitz, along with his grandchildren, Peyton and Abby Kottwitz, as well as family and friends.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Vivian Rennard, and son Tye Rennard. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law Carl Christianson.
A memorial fund will be established in his name. Memorial contributions will be directed toward improvements at the fairgrounds that benefit the 4-H horse program.
