Mark Stephen Groh Sr., 75, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 6, 2026. While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his life was one of purpose, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He lived boldly, worked tirelessly, and inspired countless people along the way.
Born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, to Robert and Alma Groh, Mark possessed an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age. He was never content to simply follow the path before him; he was driven to create, innovate, and build. Throughout his career, he launched numerous business ventures, always embracing new opportunities with curiosity and determination.
Mark became a nationally recognized pioneer in the field of cathodic protection, helping advance technologies that protect steel structures from corrosion. His innovative thinking and technical expertise earned him the respect of colleagues across the country, but his greatest satisfaction came from solving problems and helping others succeed.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark believed deeply in investing in people. He generously mentored aspiring entrepreneurs, offering not only practical business guidance but also the encouragement and confidence to pursue their dreams. His willingness to share his knowledge and resources changed the lives of many who now carry forward lessons learned from his example.
Service to others was woven into the fabric of his life. He devoted countless hours to community leadership, serving on numerous boards and organizations. Among his proudest contributions was his service on the Niobrara Community Hospital Board, where his leadership and commitment helped secure the hospital’s stability during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. He believed that strong communities are built by people willing to step forward when they are needed most.
Though his career brought him success, Mark’s heart always belonged to the American West. Owning and operating a ranch had long been his dream, and in Lusk, Wyoming, with the support of his wife, Kristine, he made that dream a reality. There they found joy in wide-open spaces, hard work, and the peaceful rhythm of ranch life—a place where he truly felt at home.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Alma and Robert Groh and his brother Robert F. Groh.
Of all the titles Mark held throughout his life, none meant more to him than husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kristine Groh; his children, Andrea Kronberg (Jim), Katy Groh (Curt), Mark Groh Jr. (Megan), and Ashley Briggs (Russell); and his treasured grandchildren, Alivia, Zayne, Eliana, Vivian, Sonny, Rex, Poppy, and Rocki; his brother, Michael Groh (Jule) and sister-in-law, Patricia Groh. His family was his greatest pride, and he celebrated every opportunity to encourage, teach, and love them.
Mark lived by simple but powerful principles: have faith, work hard, persevere, and never quit. One of his favorite sayings—“Quitters never win, and winners never quit”—was more than a motto; it was the way he lived. He believed success was earned through determination, resilience, and integrity. There was never a challenge too great to tackle, a question left unasked, or a problem left unsolved. He approached life with relentless curiosity and a belief that every obstacle could become an opportunity.
Those who knew Mark will remember his unwavering work ethic, generous heart, adventurous spirit, and steadfast love. His legacy is not only found in the businesses he built, the innovations he created, or the community he strengthened, but in the countless lives he influenced through his example.
Although we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life extraordinarily well lived. May we honor his memory by working hard, loving deeply, helping others generously, and facing life’s challenges with the same courage and determination that defined him.
His legacy lives on in every life he touched, every dream he encouraged, and every member of his family who carries forward his strength, resilience, and love.
A celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 10th, at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Lusk, Wyoming.
