Service held in Nebraska for Carl Dainton

Funeral service for Carl Wesley Dainton, Hat Creek, was held in the Methodist Church and burial was in the New Helena Cemetery at Anselmo, Neb., Saturday.

The badly decomposed body of Dainton, 47, was discovered by area rancher Don Kraft the morning of August 21 in a garage at the abandoned Hat Creek store.

According to the Niobrara sheriff's office Dainton had been reported missing August 8. He had left the family ranch in the Hat Creek are on July 4, and authorities assume went directly to the garage where he drove his pickup in, propped shut the door with a heavy plank and crawled in the garage through a window.

The window and cracks around the door were sealed with plastic tacked over them. A small hammer and tacks were found at the scene. The switch of the vehicle was still on and the battery was dead. Dainton died of carbon monoxide poisoning according to authorities.

Carl Wesley Dainton was born July 26, 1928, at Broken Bow, Neb., the son of Wayne and Grace Brown Dainton. His mother died when he was three days old and he lived with his grandparents in Anselmo until he was 11. He moved to South Dakota with his father and stepmother, and two years later moved with them to the ranch north of Lusk.

Dainton attended grade school in Chadron, Lusk High School and Chadron State Teacher's College, and he taught in various schools in Wyoming for 20 years. He spent the past year at the ranch north of Lusk. He served in the U. S. Army from January 5, 1952 until June 8, 1954.

He is survived by Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Dainton and numerous aunts and uncles.
