Clyde Gibbs Dies In Ambulance Last Wednesday

Clyde H. Gibbs, 46, of the Cheyenne River community, died at 11:00 p.m. May 12 in an ambulance enroute to Cheyenne. He had suffered from an inflammatory rheumatism condition since 1942.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the McColley Chapel in Newcastle with Brian Clark of the Methodist Church officiating. Merrill Womach was organist. Pallbearers were Orin Carr, Russell Christensen, Jim Zerbst, Glen Hanson, Gene Francis, and Paul Gaskill. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle.

Clyde Henry Gibbs, youngest child of Alfred and Katie Gibbs, was born October 11, 1918 at Hay Springs, Nebr. He moved with his family from Nebraska to Wyoming in the spring of 1919, where they settled in the Cheyenne River community. He attended both grade and high school there.

He and Martha Scott were married in 1941 and had one daughter, Terry Lee. In the spring of 1942 he entered the U. S. Army. He was stationed in California and while there was stricken with arthritis. He was later given an honorable discharge. He worked at various jobs until he was no longer able and then made his home with his parents until their death. Since the fall of 1960 he has lived with his brother Joe Gibbs.

Survivors include his daughter, Terry Lee Salter, and two grandsons of Oakland, Calif.; four brothers, Lawrence and Joe Gibbs of the Cheyenne River community, Alfred Gibbs of Wheatland, Irwin Gibbs of Clayton, Wash.; one sister, Katherine Fotherningham of Evanston; numerous nieces and nephews.
