Joan E. VandeBossche

Joan E. Vande Bossche, age 79, of Edgemont, S.D., died Jan. 19, 2006, at the Custer Regional Senior Care in Custer, S.D.

Joan was born on Jan. 18, 1927 to John L. and Matilda M. (Hansen) Schuver in Moody County, S.D. She graduated from Parkston High School and attended college at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa.

Joan was an active member of the St. James Catholic Church. She assisted at the funeral home, worked in the office at Kustom Kraft and was a librarian at the Edgemont Library.

Joan enjoyed sewing, working on arts and crafts projects, gathering recipes, cooking and baking. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a strong faith and loved her church and church family as well.

Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Vande Bossche of Edgemont, two sons, Richard J. (Jill) Vande Bossche of Sidney, Mont., Mathew (Karla) Vande Bossche of Lusk, five daughters, Carol L. (John) Hirsh of Rapid City, S.D., Jane (Jim) Bailey of Peoria, Ill., Julie (Charles) Russell of Las Cruces, N.M., Kim (Jeff) Christensen of Santa Claus, Ind., Mary (Doug) Rose of Gillette, brother, John T. (Jan) Schuver of Sun City West, Ariz., sister Bernice (Ken) Morehouse of Parkston, S.D., 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death.

Rosary and wake services were held at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at the St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont, S.D.

Mass of Christian Burial were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at the St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont, S.D., with Father Pete Kovarik officiating.

Committal services were held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.

A memorial has been established in Joan's name to benefit the St. James Catholic Church in Edgemont, S.D.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Edgemont, S.D.
