Mrs. Ed Herren Dies on Friday

Mrs. Ed Herren, 75, died at West Nebraska General Hospital in Scottsbluff Friday. She has been in poor health for a number of years and on October 28 fell in her home breaking her hip.

Funeral services were held at the Harrison Methodist Church on Sunday afternoon with Rev. James Keith officiating. He was assisted by Gene Goben of Chadron. The Houston Funeral Home of Crawford was in charge of the funeral, and burial was in the Harrison Cemetery.

Mrs. James Keith sang "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" accompanied by Mrs. Robert Todd at the organ.

Active pall bearers were Bruce Parsons, Lester Lewis, Raymond Riley, Wendell Grapes, Otto York, and Harry Baldwin Jr.

Honorary pall bearers were Fay Stiles, Harry Burnham, Ed Redifer, Andrew McMaster, William Grote, Bill McKelvey, Vern Marsteller, and John Broderick.

Retta Mary Anstey Herren was born to Mary and John Anstey at Horton, Kan., on March 18, 1890.

She spent her girlhood at Horton. On May 10, 1910 she was married to Martin Edward Herren in Abilene, Kan., and to them five children were born - three sons and two daughters. They made their home in Kansas until 1911 at which time they moved to Deadwood, S. Dak. In 1912 they homesteaded 10 miles south of Van Tassell, Wyo. this was their home until 1948 when they made their home in Harrison, Nebraska.

She leaves her husband, Ed; her children, George of Crawford, Dick of Harrison, Clyde of Brawley, Calif., Mrs. Coza Shelley of Hereford, Texas, and Mrs. Hilda Teske of Harrison; two sisters, Ruby Dugan and Faye Bell of Salina, Kan.; four brothers, Ord of Harrison, Ed of Kingston, Ark., Charles of Arkansas City, Kan., and Gene of Bird City, Kan.; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Anstey, Bird City, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bell, Salina, Kan.; Mrs. Ethel Anstey, Marvin Anstey, Harold Anstey, and Maxine Anstey all of Santa Fe, N. M.; Corrine Hale, Denver; Mrs. and Mrs. John Herren, Mount Ayre, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bell, Grant City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Herren, Brawley, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Shelley, Hereford, Texas; Mrs. Jim Pope, Riverside, Calif.; and Mr. and Mrs. Sampson and Mr. and Mrs. Don Teske of Torrington, Wyo. Among others from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burnham, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Stiles, Mrs. Anton Fisher, and Mrs. Rose Kenyon all of Torrington; Mr. and Mrs. William Fisher, Hot Springs, S. Dak., and Mrs. Anna Larsen of Chadron.

Members of the W.S.C.S. of the Harrison Methodist Church served a dinner for the family at the V.F.W. Building.

Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were: Clyde Herren of Brawley, Calif., Coza Shelley of Riverside, Calif., Hilda Teske of Torrington, Mrs. Claude Tyrrel of Lusk, Wyo., and Jess Dugan of Salina, Kan.
