Claudia Reid Hickman

Claudia Reid Hickman, 40, of Central Lake, Mich., died Feb. 20, 1993, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Central Lake High School gymnasium. The Rev. Richard M. Smiley officiated.

She was born April 2, 1952, in Dearborn, the daughter of David and Joyce (Wallick) Reid. She was a 1970 graduate of Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn and a 1974 graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in early childhood development.

She moved to Central Lake from Dearborn in 1976.

On Oct. 15, 1978, at Central Lake, she married Alan B. Hickman, who survives.

Hickman was the director of The Children's Place Preschool of Central Lake which she established in 1977. She was secretary of the Central Lake Public School Board of Education for the past 11 years and secretary of the Central Lake Chamber of Commerce the past two years. She had a great love for the welfare of area children and the community she served.

She was a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She also owned and operated T.C.P. Enterprise Framing Shop in Central Lake since 1982.

Survivors include her husband, Alan; one son, Stuart R., and one daughter, Emily R., both at home; her mother and stepfather, Joyce and Dr. Kenneth Turner of Lusk, Wyo.; Her father and stepmother, David and Carolyn Reid of Dearborn; two sisters, Laura Reid and her companion Phil Edwards of Central Lake and Beth Bentley and her husband Vernon of Laramie, Wyo.; three stepsister, Kathy Turner of Casper, Wyo., Diane YoungDyke and her husband Dennis of Central Lake and LouAnn Bensinger and her husband Michael of Midland; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Claudia Reid Hickman Memorial Education Fund, 3407 Shady Nook Road, Central Lake, Mich. 49622.

Arrangements were handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
