Robert L. Huff

Graveside services and burial for Robert L. Huff, 80, Douglas were Nov. 12, 1996, at the Douglas Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Moore of the First United Methodist Church officiating. The Samuel Mares American Legion Post #8 conducted the military graveside rites. Memorials are to the donor's choice.

Mr. Huff died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, at the Converse County Memorial Hospital in Douglas following a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 9, 1915, in Canton, Ohio, to Walter A. and Myrtle (Gracey) Huff. He attended schools in Canton, North Lawrence and Massillon, Ohio.

He worked as a machinist at Will Burt Manufacturing Company in Orville, Ohio, in the early 1940s, before entering the United Sates Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned home and was employed at Coe manufacturing Company in Painesville, Ohio, for 27 years.

He also worked part-time as a deputy sheriff for Lake County, Ohio. He was a loving husband, father and a faithful friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and football.

He was talented at renovating and repairing things. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he came regularly to the Lance Creek area to hunt deer and antelope.

At K&K Market and Cold Storage he met Emmy Lou (Kant) Austin, whose husband had died. They were married March 3, 1973, in Lance Creek. They continued operating the business until 1981. In 1984, it seemed a good idea to move to Douglas to retire and enjoy the convenience of town living.

Survivors include his wife of Douglas; two children by a previous marriage, Donald Huff and wife, Susanne of Massillon and Janice Crawfis and husband, Dave of Ottawa, Ohio; brother Tom and his wife, Sherri of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren Michael Crawfis and his wife, Kim of Canton, Steven Crawfis of Ottawa and Tricia Knopp and her husband, Ron of Wooster, Ohio; great-grandson Nicholas Crawfis of Canton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Wilbur and Harold Huff.

Serving as pallbearers were Roger Haefele, Jerry Burback, Ralph Aab, Brad Kant, Pat Kant and Steve Kant.

The Converse Funeral chapel was in charge of arrangements.
