Grace Irene Holberg

Funeral services for Grace Irene Holberg, 98, will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2002, 2:30 p.m., at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Douglas, Wyo., with Reverend Martin Strom officiating. Interment will be in Douglas Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Holberg died June 19, 2002, at her home in Douglas.

Grace was born March 18, 1904, at Salida, Colo., the daughter of James Agustus and Rosamond (Giles) Ellis. The Ellis and Giles families were early pioneers and the first settlers in Cherry County, Neb.

Grace was raised in the Sand Hills of Nebraska and attended Chadron State Teachers College and the University of Nebraska. She taught school for five years in western Nebraska.

Brace married Elmer Holberg May 22, 1922, at Ainsworth, Neb. The family came to Douglas in 1940, where Grace resided until the time of her death. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, the Congregational United Church of Christ, and the Wyoming Pioneer Association.

Grace is survived by three children, Bonnie Jean Conley of Douglas, Benjamin Holberg of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Birney Holberg of Meeteetse, Wyo.; fourteen grandchildren: ten great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doctor Elmer Holberg on Oct. 23, 1988, daughter, Beatrix; two sisters; and two brothers.
