Madean Johnsonbaugh

Madean Johnsonbaugh, 86, of Fort Collins, Colo., died June 2, 1998 at Fort Collins Good Samaritan Retirement Village.

A memorial service was held at the village and interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Don Chanslor will be in Lusk July 9 at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Lusk.

Memorials are to the Fort Collins Good Samaritan Retirement Village, 508 W. Trilby Rd., Fort Collins, Colo. 80525.

She was born Aug 15, 1911 in Manhattan, Kan., to James Richard and Mabel Tatman. When she was in junior high school, her family moved to Canon City, Colo., where she graduated from high school. In 1929, her family moved to Greeley, where she and her brother Dick Tatman both attended and graduated from Colorado State Teachers College.

She was hired as a teacher in Belle Fourche, S. Dak., where she met her future husband, Lee Johnsonbaugh. They were married in Greeley on June 7, 1939 at the home of her parents. They eventually settled in Lusk, where she taught sixth grade for 17 years and where her husband was superintendent of schools.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, P.E.O. and Eastern Star. She and her husband were active in AARP and Wyoming Retired Teachers Association. She was also active in the Congregational Church in Lusk before moving to Fort Collins.

She loved to do crewel embroidery and other handiwork. She made many afghans and baby quilts for family members and former students.

She is survived by her husband of Fort Collins; a son, Richard and wife Pat of Homewood, Ill., a daughter, Susan Chapman and husband Ed of Loveland, Colo.; a brother, Dick Tatman of Greeley; four grandchildren including David Schnieder and wife Megan of Grenoble, France; Benjamin Schneider and wife Karen Tidwall of Milwaukee, Wisc.; Randy and Danny Chapman of Loveland and several nieces and nephews.
