Mable Kelso

Services for Mable Kelso, age 94, were held Monday, January 16, 1995, at the First Baptist Church in Lusk with Rev. Randy Bamett officiating. Interment was in the Grand Island Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebraska, Tuesday, January 17, 1995.

Mrs. Kelso died Thursday morning, January 12, 1995, at the home of her granddaughter, Jeannie Bartlett, in Lusk. She was born July 23, 1900, at Tie Siding, Wyoming, the daughter of George Leland Larken and Libby Mae Bancroft Larken.

Mable grew up and attended school in North Loup, Nebraska. After graduation she took a home nursing course and worked a few months. She married Earl Cooper Kelso in June of 1920 and they made their home in Grand Island. To this union were born two daughters, Margery and Verna Jean. For many years she worked in the Lingerie Department at Kaufman's Department Store in Grand Island. She moved with her granddaughter and grand-son-in-law to Douglas in 1972 and later to Lusk in 1989.

Mable grew up as a Seventh-Day Baptist, and was baptized into the Family of God at the age of seventeen. She has been a member of the Southern Baptist Church for many years.

Throughout her life, all who knew her were blessed by her loving spirit and kind ways.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, her husband, one daughter and three great-grandchildren.

Survivors include; one daughter, Verna Jean Neville of Casper; two sisters, Pansy Talbot of Battlecreek, Michigan and Fanny Bloem of Douglas, Wyoming; nine grandchildren, Kathy Adams of Kansan City, Missouri, Joyce Orosco of Ashton, Nebraska, Jeannie Bartlett of Lusk, Wyoming, Sue Freeory of York, Nebraska, Barbara Bess of Grand Island, Nebraska, Nancy Dunnellon of Florida.; Patty Johnson of Evanston, Wyoming, Jerry Joe Johnson of Portland, Oregon; fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials to the Niobrara Southern Baptist Church or to the Niobrara Senior Center will be appreciated by the family. Bader Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
