Funeral Held for Francis Kolego

Funeral services were held March 10 for Francis Kolego, 49 who died March 8 in Douglas of cancer.

Requiem Mass was held at St. James Catholic Church in Douglas with the Rev. Father Terence McGovern officiating. Burial was in Douglas Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Harold Schmidt, John Dickinson, Robert Baribeau, Jim Zerbst, Douglas Anthony and Reuben Boatright.

Francis Arthur Kolego was born in Collinton, Alberta, Canada, July 22, 1914. In 1921 he came with his parents to Niobrara County where they homesteaded. He was engaged in livestock raising in Niobrara County until 1948, from 1942 to 1945 he was with the U. S. Navy as a gunner on a merchant ship.

In 1949 he married Helen Gooden and the family has made their home in the Shawnee community since.

Mr. Kolego was a member of the Catholic Church, the American Legion, V.F.W., Farm Bureau and Douglas Rifle and Pistol Club.

Besides his wife Helen, he is survived by two daughters, Ann and Mary; two sons, John and James; a step-daughter, Kathleen Gooden, who is attending school in Washington, D. C.; his mother Mrs. Anna R. Kolego of Lusk; a sister, Mrs. Robert B. Dixon of Lance Creek; a brother, Henry Kolego of Silverton, Colo.; and several nieces and nephew. His father and a sister preceded him in death.
